Grindelwald sits in a valley floor with steep slopes on both sides, so the village gets less direct sun than an open terrace and more running water — snowmelt, rain off the slopes, spray from the road. Water is the variable that matters here rather than UV. We drill mounting holes ourselves rather than let them be made on site, because a hole drilled through anodising or lacquer on a wet facade is where corrosion starts.
Which material at this altitude
The village itself sits low enough that UV and frost are closer to Plateau conditions than to high-alpine ones, so anodised aluminium remains a sensible choice for larger building signs. Chalets higher up the slope are another matter — there we recommend brass or stainless steel. Tell us the altitude of the building and we will say which we would fit.
Ordering from abroad
Deliveries into the valley are straightforward; installation is the part that catches people out. Many chalets here are rented or jointly owned, and drilling is not always yours to authorise. We supply adhesive mounting by default so the plate can go up the day it arrives, whoever owns the wall.

Questions
We rent the chalet and cannot drill. What are the options?
Adhesive mounting on a clean, flat, non-porous surface. It holds for years, lifts cleanly with heat when you leave, and is what we supply by default here for exactly this reason.
Does snow and run-off damage a plate?
Not the plate itself in brass or stainless steel. What it damages is a badly made hole: water entering a hole drilled through a coating on site is the usual cause of failure, which is why we drill and seal ours in the workshop.
