Chalet and letterbox plates for Gstaad and the Saanenland, engraved in Switzerland.
The Saanenland has a strong local building tradition — dark weathered timber, carved facades, house names painted or carved rather than printed. A plate that ignores that reads as an intrusion. Brass suits these facades better than anything else we make: it warms as it patinates and settles into aged wood instead of standing out against it. On dark timber we usually engrave without filling, letting the cut catch the light on its own.
Which material at this altitude
The village itself sits low enough that UV and frost are closer to Plateau conditions than to high-alpine ones, so anodised aluminium remains a sensible choice for larger building signs. Chalets higher up the slope are another matter — there we recommend brass or stainless steel. Tell us the altitude of the building and we will say which we would fit.

Discretion matters here more than speed. We ship in unbranded packaging to the address you nominate — usually a caretaker or an estate office — and we do not put the chalet name on the outside of the parcel. If you would rather collect from a post office, tell us and we will address it accordingly.

Which fixing works on old chalet timber?
Screws, into the timber itself rather than into a joint. Adhesive holds poorly on aged, oiled or rough wood — we will tell you which we recommend from a photograph rather than guess.
Polished or antiqued brass on dark wood?
Antiqued, almost always. Polished brass reads as new against weathered timber and takes several years to settle; antiqued starts where polished ends up.
