The Upper Engadine is one of the highest inhabited valleys in Europe and among the coldest places in Switzerland in winter, which makes it the single worst environment we ship to for anything but metal. House names here are often Romansh, with spellings and accents that engraving software mangles if nobody checks — we set the text as a proof and send it for your approval before cutting, precisely so that a name is not quietly simplified.
Which material at this altitude
Above roughly 1,500 metres the sun is harsher and the freeze–thaw cycle runs most of the year. Two consequences. Black and coloured anodised aluminium loses depth faster here than on the Plateau, so we steer alpine orders towards natural silver anodising, brushed stainless steel or brass. And black acrylic, excellent indoors, becomes brittle outdoors under repeated frost — a screw hole intact in October can craze by spring. For an exterior plate at this altitude we fit brass or stainless steel, and nothing else.

Many Engadine properties stand empty for months, and a parcel left in an unattended entrance in January is a parcel in the snow. We deliver to a caretaker or a management address by default, and we will ask you to confirm the recipient before dispatch rather than assume the chalet is occupied.

That is exactly why we send a written proof before cutting. Engraving software substitutes characters silently; a proof you approve is the only way to be sure nothing was quietly simplified.
Can a plate be fitted in mid-winter?
Screw mounting, yes. Adhesive, no — the bond needs a surface above roughly ten degrees to cure properly. If you order in January and want adhesive, fit it in spring or warm the surface first.
